KO WAI MĀTOU I ABOUT SKY

We're incredibly proud of our achievements, but that doesn't mean we're satisfied. As innovators, we constantly challenge ourselves to redefine boundaries and adapt to the ever-changing marketplace.

Come be your authentic self at Sky, where we actively listen and adapt to create shared experiences that excite both our customers and our crew.

As an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer, we proudly champion inclusivity and diversity as our core values, and we are open to applicants of all gender identities to feel welcomed and supported during the application process. We have included a "Diverse" category for those who identify as non-binary, genderqueer, genderfluid, or any other gender identity outside the binary system of male/female.

TE TŪRANGA I THE ROLE

Ever wanted the best seat in the house without leaving the control room? As an MCR (Master Control Room) Operator at Sky, you’ll be at the heart of the action – watching content seconds before it hits screens across the country.

You’ll play a key role in delivering broadcast content to our customers around the clock, making sure our systems run smoothly and live moments land on air without a glitch. Whether it’s troubleshooting a feed from Eden Park, managing international broadcast links, or coordinating with global service providers – you’ll be in the thick of it, making magic happen behind the scenes.

This is a hands-on technical role within a 24/7 broadcast environment. You’ll work 12-hour shifts across a rotating roster including days, overnights, and weekends. If you thrive under pressure, love live content, and enjoy solving problems on the fly, this could be your calling.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Monitor and manage the quality and continuity of broadcast content across satellite, fibre, and IP networks
  • Operate Sky’s contribution and distribution systems from source to screen
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve service issues – before they impact customers
  • Work closely with broadcasters, service providers and internal teams to ensure seamless delivery
  • Keep detailed operational records and support continuous improvement through incident management and root-cause analysis
  • Ensure services meet broadcast standards and SLAs
  • Bring a proactive, solutions-focused mindset to every shift

NGĀ PŪKENGA ME NGĀ WHEAKO I WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Completed a recognised Broadcast or Media course (with practical and theoretical training), or equivalent experience
  • Hands-on experience solving complex systems problems in a broadcast or technical environment
  • Understanding of Broadcast Standards Authority (BSA) regulations

PREFERRED:

  • 1–2 years' experience in a multi-disciplined MCR or similar technical operations role
  • Knowledge of signal contribution/distribution across satellite, fibre, and IP
  • Relevant technical qualification such as Engineering, NZCE (Telecommunications), or a Certificate in Applied Technology (Electronics)

KO NGĀ HUANGA I WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

As part of the Sky crew, you’ll enjoy a range of great benefits – from free Sky, Sky Sport Now and Neon, to discounted Southern Cross health insurance and YMCA gym memberships. We offer free onsite parking at our Mt Wellington and Albany office, and we’re big on supporting your growth with exciting career development opportunities.
